Primary Texts
The Primary Texts section is intended as an online
repository for all primary sources relevant to the study of the life and works
of Thomas Gray. It provides electronic editions of Gray's poetry, including extensive collaborative
commentary. It also contains selected prose works as
well as a browsable calendar to the known correspondence of Gray. In addition a concordance to the complete
poetry is available. These primary sources may also be searched with a
simple search tool for quick access to the texts from search
results. This section also provides access to digitized materials, such as
digital images of important 18th-century editions, in
the digital library. It also contains a finding aid to Gray manuscripts. The principal goal
of the Primary Texts section is to offer free access to a growing
number of significant electronic primary sources for use by students,
scholars, and teachers, and to stimulate discussion by providing an
opportunity to add notes and queries to any part of any of the texts available
in the Archive.
The Primary Texts section is subdivided into the following parts,
each of which provides different ways of navigating, exploring, and using
Gray's texts:
- Poems: annotated electronic editions of
Gray's poems
- Prose Works: selected essays and criticisms on
various topics
- Letters: browsable calendar to Gray's
correspondence
- Concordance: concordance to the
complete poems
- Digital Library: digitized facsimile editions of Gray's works
- Finding Aid: integrated guide to Gray
manuscripts
