Concordance
This Web concordance contains every word in Gray's
complete poems, set in the immediate context of the line in which it
appears. The word list and concordance is keyed to the complete electronic
texts as available in the Archive's poems section, it does not include any paratexts or
any variant readings from other sources. Organized alphabetically as well as
by word occurrences, it is designed as a reference and research tool for
improved access to and use of the textual contents, in particular for the
study of nuances of meaning of a particular word by examining the various
contexts in which it is used.
Please select a letter or the corpus word occurrences list from below to
generate the list of words with the number of occurrences in parentheses. The
word list is organised to be read from top to bottom in each of the
columns. Once a word has been selected from the list, the concordance for this
word is generated. The poems appear in order of the number of occurrences in
the text. Cross-referencing has been freely employed to assist readers in
finding what they are looking for. As this is a computer-generated
concordance, words have not been disambiguated by assigning proper parts of
speech. Please see also this Help Desk section for
more information.
